Email template to the VC regarding ASOS from Student

If you are a student at UoN, Please feel free to personalise the below text as an email to the VC.

Dear Vice Chancellor,

I am writing to you as a student who is deeply concerned about the ongoing disruption caused by industrial action short of strike. The effects on our academic experience have been tangible for me and my coursemates with missed feedback, delayed assessments, and the uncertainty that surrounds our learning. It is frustrating, and I know many students share these sentiments.

However, I also want to express my solidarity with the staff who have felt compelled to take this action. No one chooses to disrupt their workplace or their students’ education lightly, and I know my lecturers and other staff at the university care a lot about our success in learning. These actions arise from avoidable issues concerning job security, compulsory redundancy and respect for the essential work that university staff undertake. The quality of education we receive is inseparable from the wellbeing and fair treatment of those who provide it, so I am also concerned by the increased workload those keeping their jobs will be expected to take on, and how this will impact their ability to provide students like me the best educational environment.

I therefore urge you to respond constructively to the concerns raised by the trade unions representing staff across our university. Students, staff, and leadership are all part of one academic community — and the way this dispute is handled will have lasting consequences for morale, trust, and our shared future. A meaningful dialogue with staff representatives would show that the university values not just business continuity, but the people who uphold its core mission.

As a student, I care deeply about my education. And I care about those who deliver it. I hope you will take steps to de-escalate this situation by engaging with the unions respectfully and proactively.

Yours sincerely,
[Your name]
