University of Nottingham UCU provides advice and representation for workplace issues.

  • For queries surrounding the redundancy process please see our redundancy FAQS.
  • For questies surrounding informal academic performance review meetings please see our performance conversation FAQs.
  • If you have a general question, please email uonucubranch@gmail.com which will put you in contact with the branch co-ordinator.
  • If you have a Departmental- or School-specific issue, please contact your local Rep.
  • If your issue may need the branch’s support in the form of a caseworker, please fill in the “Ask for caseworker support” form (blue tab on right side of this page) which will create a case in our casework management system. At the branch level, our volunteer caseworkers can provide:
    • Initial Advice – review the circumstances of your issue, advise you on your rights and options, and help you understand UoN processes and policies.
    • Preparation Support – help you submit a claim, prepare for an investigation meeting or panel hearing by reviewing documents, helping you formulate responses, and advising on how to present your case effectively.
    • Representation and Accompaniment – accompany you to formal proceedings to ensure they are being conducted fairly and in accordance with UoN policy.
    • For cases with more serious consequences, UCU nationally can provide Professional legal support – which includes professional advice, representation by solicitors and/or representation at an employment tribunal.

Whilst we are happy to offer general advice to all members, both new and seasoned, for formal branch casework support and national UCU legal support your UCU membership must predate when the issue arose.

For national UCU legal support, UCU also has to be satisfied there is legal merit to the case (i.e. there is a case in law and a reasonable chance of success). Application to this scheme is via branch casework who then escalate to the East Midlands UCU regional office to make that initial assessment.

Our branch procedures for handling casework can be found here.
