Dear UCU members
This is to notify you of our Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, 10 June, 1pm – 2.30pm in C18, Pope Building.
In the last two years we have faced major challenges on pay and pensions. Your support in those national disputes has been much appreciated. However, what is becoming clear is that the challenges we now face reflect specific local issues. In particular:
- Project Transform, seeking to make 23% cuts in administrative costs;
- Budget cuts across Schools and Departments;
- A much more aggressive approach to PDPR, driven by HR;
- The threat of compulsory lecture capture, in which academic staff lose control over their own presentations and how they will be used.UCU believes that education is a public good, and stands against the commodification of university education. We believe in an excellent student experience, but believe it is people, not fancy buildings, who make that happen.
The AGM will be an important moment to discuss our response and strategy to the developments above. We want to hear which issues matter most to you, and we need your input in shaping our collective response. Your involvement makes us stronger in meeting these challenges.
At the start of the meeting, we will elect next year’s UCU officers and committee members. If you would like to find out more about the roles in our branch, contact the Branch Secretary. Don’t be afraid of taking on more than you feel able to cope with – there are lots of opportunities to get involved, but we only want anyone to take on what they feel comfortable doing. Sharing the work out makes us stronger.
If you wish to put yourself forward for a role, or simply to discuss how you might get involved, please contact Bram.Mertens@nottingham.ac.uk<mailto:Bram.Mertens@nottingham.ac.uk> or our new Branch Administrator Adele.Williams@Nottingham.ac.uk<mailto:Adele.Williams@Nottingham.ac.uk>
We hope to see you at our AGM. Light refreshments will be available.
