USS developments – members’ meeting Thursday 18th September.

The union’s Superannuation Working Group (SWG) has produced its latest report.  The issues regarding the Universities’ Superannuation Scheme (USS) are severe and the employers are likely to want to reduce benefits and/or increase member contributions.

UCU will decide its negotiating policy, and possible industrial action strategy, at a conference on Friday 19th September.  University of Nottingham UCU’s delegates will be Bram Mertens, Mike Byrne and Howard Stevenson.

Prior to the conference the Branch is organising a members’ meeting to help guide our delegates at the conference.

The members’ meeting will be in Room A46 in the Trent Building, 1-2pm, Thursday September 18th.

The union believes that in order to achieve its objectives it will need to ballot members for an industrial action mandate.  It is important therefore that your branch delegates know your views.

In the meantime we provide the report of the SWG. The details are complex – but please take the time to read it.  The issues are very important. The report is here – UCUHE228

Conference motions and amendments are here – UCUHE229 These will be discussed at the members’ meeting,

UCU colleagues at Southampton University have produced this helpful summary .
