UCU has long campaigned for the rights of university staff on fixed-term contracts. Problems of casualisation in the sector are endemic, and becoming worse as zero-hours contracts become a feature of the new ‘flexible workforce’.
University of Nottingham UCU now has a dedicated caseworker focusing on issues relating to fixed-term contracts. Committee member Elvira Perez Vallejos (Institute of Mental Health) will take a lead on casework matters on these issues.
